Legendary American Singer & Actor, Michael (Marvin) Lee ADay, better known as 'Meatloaf' has died at the age of 74 on 20th January 2022.
Meatloaf was known for his powerful theatrical live shows and his career on Broadway playing in theatres across the US, especially his iconic character 'Eddie' in the 1975 cult classic 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' where he performed the track 'Hot Patootie (Bless My Soul)'.
Another one of his fans favourite characters was "Robert 'Bob' Paulson" in the 1999 film fight club, which is a film about an unhappy office worker who forms an underground fight club, which eventually turns into something sinister. The character Robert was a former bodybuilder, wrestler and creator of a chest expansion program and was referred to by The Narrator as "bitch tits".
Meatloaf was known for many things, one of biggest was his 'Bat Out Of Hell' trilogy which featured tracks such as "Bat Out Of Hell", "All Revved Up with No Place to Go", "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad", "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)", "Blind As A Bat" and "What About Love (Duet with Path Russo)". Bat Out Of Hell is also one of the best-selling albums in history with sales of over 40 million copies, with the first album still selling an estimated 200,000 copies annually.
Although Meatloaf was also known for many other legendary performances & releases, we wanted to finish off with what is noted as one of his best live performances:
Meatloaf has left behind a truly mind-blowing legacy that will never be matched again. His place was upon the stage and he never stopped performing. In 2020 Meatloaf actually announced his intention to record a new album which would contain 4-5 new tracks including Jim Steinman's 'What Part of My Body Hurts the most', sadly, Steinman passed away on 19th April 2021.
Unfortunately, Meatloaf was due to be in the studio this month to record seven new tracks for the forthcoming album, which would have included live tracks from 1970, 1980, 1990 and 2000. We are unsure whether he was able to complete his recordings before his passing, but if he did it would be a huge tribute to his career.
Tributes have been coming in from around the world, one of which by Cher:
Michael Lee ADay passed away on 20th January 2022. The bat out of hell has flown to heaven.
