ROOT ZERO - Tumbleweed

Highly absorbing Welsh riff merchants ROOT ZERO will release their hugely striking debut album, Dark Rainbow, on Friday 16th May. The UK progressive metallers have also revealed their engrossing new single and video, Tumbleweed.

With an imposing collection of influences that recall everyone from Deftones and Soundgarden through to Katatonia and Cult of Luna, ROOT ZERO are a distinctive and alluring prospect. The intriguing six-piece pull from the world of progressive and gothic metal to unleash twisting and atmospheric cuts of intricate metal that are carefully crafted with thoughtful detail and high intensity.

Originally formed as a solo project by multi-instrumentalist Giacomo Fiderio, ROOT ZERO expanded their sound and evolved over the years, and by 2022, a full band line up was assembled featuring Sasha Bannister (lead vocals), Giacomo Fiderio (keyboards/co-lead vocals), Llyr Williams (guitar), Wren Wood (guitar), Rob Edwards (bass), and Joshua Powell-Gibbs (drums). ROOT ZERO then pushed on and burrowed away in the studio to release their debut EP, The Weight of What I Started, in 2023. Live performances quickly began to take shape, and the sextet soon amassed a powerful reputation for delivering breath-taking live shows. This is evidenced by the band unanimously winning last year’s South Wales’s Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses competition. ROOT ZERO also went on to perform at Bloodstock Festival and tore the house down with a raucous and deeply engaging set.

Now established on the live circuit, ROOT ZERO are geared up to climb further, and have just completed work on their immersive debut album, Dark Rainbow. The release is laced with engulfing cuts of dramatic metal merged with power, groove, atmospherics and guile. With many live performances on the way, and further singles to follow, the future will be hugely exciting for ROOT ZERO.

Novacaine Rating: 10/10

"Progressive metal is always a tough one for me—it has to be done right to sound good—but ROOT ZERO has absolutely smashed it out of the park! This track features thunderous riffs, pounding drums, and a perfect blend of angelic vocals with gritty lows. It’s a powerful, dynamic masterpiece!" - Scott O'Shea
