Nottingham’s rising metal titans and your Novacaine Festival 2025 headliners, The Five Hundred, are gearing up to unleash their highly anticipated new album, Ghostwriter, on February 28, 2025. Packed with crushing riffs, soaring melodies, and unrelenting energy, this release promises to be an unforgettable sonic experience you won’t want to miss!
The Five Hundred released their first single from the album Ghostwriter, "Dragged Out," featuring As Everything Unfolds vocalist Charlie Rolfe, on July 11, 2024—giving us our first taste of their evolving sound.
In an interview with us last year, the band revealed they had been shifting focus towards clean vocals over harsh screams, and "Ghostwriter" is proof of that transformation. Yet, despite the emphasis on melody, the track still hits hard, delivering the same intensity and power fans have come to love—just with a fresh, dynamic twist. With this single alone, it was enough to make the decision to book them as our first ever Novacaine Festival 2025 headliners.
But the band didn’t stop there. In September 2024, they gave us another electrifying glimpse into Ghostwriter with the release of "In The Dark"—a track that was more than just another single; it was an experience. This time, the spotlight shifted to the band’s soaring clean vocals, adding a new dynamic to their already massive sound. But In The Dark wasn’t just a song—it was cinematic. You didn’t need visuals to feel it. The intensity, the emotion, the sheer power—it was like witnessing the climax of an action film, where everything hangs in the balance, and the final battle rages on.
Just a month later, The Five Hundred delivered yet another knockout track from Ghostwriter—"Rainmaker," featuring Aaron Matts of Ten56. This explosive collaboration not only gave fans another anthemic track to devour but also cemented Ghostwriter as a rising-star-studded release.
While the band continued to showcase their refined clean vocals, they cranked up the intensity with even more soul-devouring screams, proving that they haven’t lost an ounce of their crushing heaviness. The vocal chemistry between John Eeley and Aaron Matts is nothing short of flawless, delivering a dynamic performance that grips you from start to finish. Rainmaker isn’t just a song—it’s an experience, one you’ll want to relive over and over again.
Think that’s it? Think again! The Five Hundred kicked off 2025 with a thunderous, ear-pounding release—"New World"—and it hit us all with the force of a sonic boom. This time, the band proves they don’t need a featured vocalist to push their sound to new heights.
In my opinion, "New World" is the band’s strongest release from Ghostwriter so far. It’s packed with unrelenting energy, and once again, the band delivers an anthemic track that captures everything we love about them. "New World" isn’t just a song—it’s a declaration, and it marks the beginning of what’s sure to be an unforgettable year for The Five Hundred.
Ghostwriter drops next week, on February 28, 2025, via Prime Collective, and the excitement doesn’t stop there—eight unreleased tracks are still waiting to be unleashed, including two that feature some killer collaborations. The album kicks off with "The Death of All We Know", featuring Siamese, and "Chaos Sermon", featuring none other than Justin Paul Hill of Sikth. Just the names alone hint at the pure chaos and intensity that awaits. If these tracks are anything like their titles, we’re in for an absolute ride.
According to the band,“Ghostwriter invites you to confront the darkest aspects of human nature and explore the depths of existential despair. Brace yourself for an immersive musical experience that will leave you haunted and shaken to the core, as you navigate the treacherous waters of a world on the brink of collapse.”
Are you ready for Ghostwriter? Because we definitely are! We’re beyond pumped to see The Five Hundred bring their new album to life with some serious chaos at their album launch show in Nottingham, and we can't wait for their headline performance at Novacaine Festival 2025! Trust us, it’s going to be an absolute treat. We hope to see you at Novacaine this year—get ready for an unforgettable experience!
