Manchester-based alt-grunge rock newcomers The Island are gearing up to release their debut single, A Measure of Monster, on February 26, 2025. In addition, the band has announced their debut album, Liminal, set for release later in 2025.
A Measure of Monster is a raw, emotionally charged grunge anthem that delves into the personal experiences of front person Ben Nicholson. While the band chooses to keep the specifics of the song's themes open to interpretation, its poignant lyrics will resonate deeply with listeners, offering a connection to its emotional undercurrent.
The track features powerful guitars and captivating vocals from Ben Nicholson and David Swan, with a solid rhythm section from Jake Fenton and Scott Mason. The Island is undoubtedly a band to keep an eye on as they carve their niche in the underground scene next year.
Speaking with the band's manager, Reece Warburton, it was revealed that both the single and the forthcoming album were recorded and produced independently. This is a remarkable feat, as many artists struggle to produce a high-quality sound on their own. While some aspects of the release show room for growth, it's important to note that this is The Island's debut, and the promise of their potential is undeniable.

About The Island:
The Island are a 4 piece alternative metal band formed in Manchester and based in the North West of England. Inspired by the like of Deftones, Tool, Baroness, Biffy Clyro, Mastodon, Loathe, Rise Against, Whores, Hell is For Heroes, Alice In Chains, Rage Against The Machine, and Therapy?, The Island have condensed down a unique flavour of alternative metal with dexterous melodies, catchy riffing, and powerful walls of sound displaying a wide range of influences.
Forming in 2021 during the lockdown as a two member group, producing music simply to cope with the difficulties of the time, It was only after finishing the first record that Jake Fenton and Ben Nicholson realised that it was the impetus for something special. Recruiting Dave Swan and Scott Mason, they set out to play shows up and down the country and refine their sound into something powerful and unique.
Landing their first ever gig at Bootleg Social in Blackpool, a venue that has played host to such cultural phenoms as IDLES, they quickly discovered that they had something that people could connect to. The band went on to play iconic underground venues such as Rebellion in Manchester where they played to a crowd of over 150 people. A highlight for any band still finding their feet.
After playing shows up and down Britain, from Nottingham all the way up to Edinburgh, The Island took all that energy and frustration of post-covid life, coupled with a sense of political unrest, and channeled it into their new album, Liminal. A poetic compilation of songs covering topics from class divide to personal struggles with substance abuse, Liminal is a powerful record with a lot to say.
The band's first single from Liminal, titled “A Measure Of Monster”, will release on the 26th of February through Mosaic Music.
